Rescue and Hazmat

Road crashes make up large number of the incidents that the Brigade attends. These incidents are particularly dangerous with the risk of fire, fast moving traffic and sadly, often seriously injured people.

Last year there was a 26% rise in the number of crashes Kyneton’s Brigade members attended with a large proportion of these on the busy Calder Freeway and an increasing number involving electric vehicles (EVs).

On arrival, a crew member will check the wellbeing of drivers and passengers, provide medical support or assist Paramedics. Other crew will deploy hose lines and have fire extinguishers on standby, while other members will work on making the vehicle safe by disconnecting batteries, containing fuel leaks, and placing airbag warning stickers if required.

If you’re driving past a crash scene and see the red and blue flashing lights, please slow down to no more than 40 km/h

PROTECTING KYNETON AIRPORT

Kyneton Fire Brigade provides the primary response to incidents. Crews are trained to respond to aircraft fires or crashes, and the Brigade’s appliances are equipped with special-grade firefighting foam. The airport is also regularly used by air attack helicopters and other aircraft during the summer fire season.

HAZMAT EVENTS

The Brigade is equipped to respond to a variety of hazardous material (hazmat) incidents, including gas, chemical and toxic spills. The expansion of industrial businesses has seen number of hazmat call outs increase.
