Smoke Alarms Saves Lives

You might not wake up if there’s a fire in the middle of the night, or perhaps a device on charge starts to burn, but a smoke alarm will alert quickly alert you with the loud beeping alarm. This year Kyneton Brigade have responded to several house fires where the residents were able to quickly call for help and evacuate thanks to working smoke alarms.

24/7 MONITORING INSIDE YOUR HOME

Victorian law mandates the requirement for smoke alarms, and one is required on every level of the house and in between bedrooms (e.g. hallways) It is recommended that you also have a smoke alarm in every bedroom. Newer homes are required to have ‘hard-wired’ alarms, but older homes that have detectors that are battery powered should be changed to newer models that last for 10 years without the need for new batteries. Find out more here

SMOKE ALARM INSTALLATIONS FOR VUNERABLE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY

As part of Kyneton fire Brigades community support, our volunteers can supply and install next-generation smoke alarms for elderly people or those with special needs. The volunteers are specially trained to put the alarms in the correct locations, and they’ll test them to make sure you’re safe and register the alarm with the CFA. If you are unable to install your own alarms contact the Brigade for details.
